As anglers, we wanted tools that help us better understand our sessions,
fish with more confidence, and stay focused on
what truly matters at the water.
Vampire started at the water,
not in an office.
The idea for the Vampire Smart Bite Alarm was born in 2023, when Tamás Váradi and Ákos Morvai, engineering students at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, began working on it as part of their master's thesis project. Instead of designing something theoretical, they went where it mattered most: the water.
They spoke with more than 80 anglers across nearly 20 different fishing locations, conducting in-depth interviews to understand the real limitations of existing bite alarms and what anglers actually needed from a modern solution.
Encouraged by the feedback, they launched an online survey that was completed by nearly 2,000 anglers — confirming the demand for a smarter, more connected, and more reliable bite alarm.
The project gained further momentum when their AI-driven mobile app concept won first place at the AI Pitch competition, validating the idea of combining traditional fishing with intelligent, supportive technology. What began as a university project quickly grew into something bigger: a system shaped by real anglers, real feedback, and countless hours spent testing ideas at the water.
Today, Vampire continues to evolve with the same mindset — building smart tools that quietly support the fishing experience without taking away from its spirit.
